The Art Book, a 6 ½” x 5” art encyclopedia compacted down for ease of handling and carrying. Phaidon Press filled this little treasure with 500 painters/sculptors from medieval to modern times in alphabetical order. Each page is filled with a colorful image of each artist’s sculpture or painting. Along with the image is an informative description of the following categories: color, era, impression, and artist background. As a novice art aficionado, I found this book to be very helpful in defining my artistic tastes. It also provided useful insights for evaluating a work of art. The historical background of the artist gave me further understanding of the artwork from the artist’s perspective. If you are new to the art world and looking to explore a wide range of artwork, then this is the book for you.
